This was the one I was particularly looking forward to. I was hoping to enjoy an hour's insight into the mind of confirmed atheist Richard Dawkins. Sadly it fell far short of what I was hoping for.
What I wanted to find out was exactly what makes Dawkins tick and why over the years he has changed from a Christian into an atheist via writing the best selling book The God Illusion. I came away from the talk none the wiser although I have today taken out his first volume of memoirs "An Appetite for Wonder" from the library and hope this may give me some answers.
Dawkins came over more as a benign uncle than a ground breaking scientist and admitted that he was much milder in the flesh than in the written word. That I can understand as I find it easier to express my views in the printed medium rather than in a face to face situation.
The problem with the presentation was that the interviewer Christopher Bigsby tended towards the banal in his questioning. For instance there was a number of minutes talking about the behaviour of ants which really had little or no relevance. I kept expecting some revelation but it never came. I guess I will just have to revisit the books.
Good news on the health front today. I was expecting my cholesterol levels to be high but a recent blood test shows them at 4.8%, which is not a cause for concern. I am continuing with my health diet, however, as I still want to shed some more weight.
